The Importance of Regular Pet Care

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Just like they are in human medicine, regular exams are the backbone of preventative care in veterinary medicine. When we regularly exam your pet, we establish a baseline for their health. That way, we’re more likely to identify health issues before they’ve progressed very far, perhaps even before your pet exhibits external symptoms.

Prevention is easier on your pet—and your wallet—than treating disease once it’s already set in. Along with an exam, annual blood screenings for heartworm and to check organ function as well as fecal testing for internal parasites is highly recommended.

We suggest annual exams for average, adult pets and twice-annual exams for senior pets (pets seven years old and older). Pets with chronic health concerns often require more frequent exams as well so we can help them age in a healthy manner.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Vet DayAnd – Don’t Forget Your Feline Friends!

No joke—there actually is a day set aside to remind us that cats need regular veterinary visits! The reason? According to the American Humane Society our feline companions go to the veterinarian about half as often as dogs. Many people only take their cat to the vet when he or she is really sick—and often, that illness might have been avoided with preventive care.

While it’s true that cats are often low-maintenance pets compared to dogs, they still need regular wellness care including exams, vaccines and preventive medications to stay healthy. Plus, when we see cats regularly, we establish a baseline for their health and can often identify changes and diagnose diseases before they get too serious. Felines are very adept at hiding illness and injury, so they may have been suffering a long time before you know it.

So—how long has it been since your pet saw the vet? If it’s been over a year (or you can’t remember!) schedule an appointment online or contact us.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
